Fiji

April 15, 2009

Extremely disturbing events over the last week. The sacking of judges and imprisonment of Law Society members and journalists is an outrage. The New Zealand and Australian Governments have issued strong warnings. It is time the Commenwealth and the Pacific Forum act and dismiss Fiji. Ideas must be developed for ways to exert pressure on the Military Government without hurting the Fijian population. I would like to hear more from the Fijian community in New Zealand. The 5 years until elections is far too long a wait to hear the voices of the Fijian community.

edit: Journalists (especially TVNZ) need to have a think about whether they should report Bainimarama’s statements and propoganda when he denies them access to other Fijian voices.
